Research Application Terms and Conditions
1. Preamble and Acceptance
By submitting a research application (the "Application") to the MUCRC through this online portal, the applicant ("Applicant" or "You") acknowledges and agrees to be bound by the following terms and conditions (the "Terms"). These Terms govern the application process and form an agreement between the Applicant and MUCRC.
2. Application Requirements and Eligibility
- Eligibility: The Applicant confirms they meet all specified eligibility criteria for the specific research opportunity or grant they are applying for, as detailed in the relevant call for applications or program guidelines.
- Accuracy: The Applicant must ensure that all information provided in the Application, including personal details, research plans, budget projections, and supporting documentation, is true, accurate, complete, and not misleading at the time of submission.
- Completeness: Only fully completed applications, including all mandatory fields and required attachments, will be considered for review. MUCRC reserves the right to reject incomplete applications without prior notice.
- Submission Deadline: The Application must be submitted on or before the specified deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted, regardless of the reason for the delay.
3. Intellectual Property (IP) and Ownership
- Existing IP: The Applicant confirms that any pre-existing Intellectual Property (IP) utilized or described in the Application is either owned by the Applicant or that the Applicant has secured all necessary permissions for its use in the Application and the proposed research.
- IP of Proposed Research: Ownership and rights associated with any new IP generated as a result of the proposed research, if successful and funded/supported by MUCRC, will be governed by a separate, formal Research Agreement and/or MUCRC's IP policy.
- License to Review: By submitting the Application, the Applicant grants MUCRC a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and distribute the Application materials solely for review, evaluation, and internal record-keeping.
4. Confidentiality and Data Protection
- Confidentiality: MUCRC undertakes to handle the Application and its contents with reasonable care and confidentiality. However, absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed during the peer review process involving external experts.
- Data Protection: The Applicant consents to MUCRC collecting, storing, and processing the data provided in the Application in accordance with its Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws.
- Transparency: Successful Applicants may have their project titles, research teams, and summaries made publicly available for transparency and reporting purposes.
5. Ethical Compliance and Regulatory Standards
- Ethics: The proposed research must adhere to the highest standards of research ethics, including principles outlined by relevant national and international guidelines (e.g., Declaration of Helsinki).
- Regulatory Approval: The Applicant warrants that, if the research is successful, they will obtain all necessary ethical approvals before commencing any activity.
- Conflict of Interest: The Applicant must declare any potential or actual conflicts of interest related to the Application or their association with MUCRC personnel.
6. Review and Evaluation Process
- Process: Applications will undergo multi-stage review, including screening, expert evaluation, and final deliberation by a selection committee.
- Discretion: MUCRC retains absolute discretion in the selection of successful applications.
- No Obligation: Submission of an Application does not create any obligation on MUCRC to fund or support it.
- Feedback: MUCRC does not guarantee that feedback will be provided to unsuccessful applicants.
7. Warranties and Indemnity
- Warranties: The Applicant warrants they have the legal capacity and authority to submit the Application and that the proposed research does not violate any laws.
- Indemnity: The Applicant agrees to indemnify and hold MUCRC harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from breaches of these Terms or from third-party IP issues.
8. Cancellation, Modification, and Termination
- Withdrawal: The Applicant may withdraw their Application at any time before a formal funding decision by notifying MUCRC in writing.
- Modification of Terms: MUCRC may modify these Terms at any time; changes take effect upon posting on the website or portal.
- Termination: MUCRC may terminate evaluation of an Application at any stage if material breaches or ethical concerns arise.
9. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of [Specify Country of MUCRC]. Any disputes shall be resolved through [Specify preferred method, e.g., binding arbitration in Nairobi, Kenya]under the rules of [Specify Arbitration Body].
10. Confirmation of Agreement

- You understand that a separate, formal Research Agreement will be required for successful applicants prior to the disbursement of any funds or collaboration.
